CITY IN BRIEF.

Convicted in Juvenille Court. - James Auss who conducts a poolroom on Central avenue, near Fifth street, was convicted of promoting juvenille delinquency by a jury in Judge C. W. Hoffman's Juvenille Court yesterday. Auss was charged with having permitted a seventeen-year-old boy to play in his place. He demanded a jury through Attorney G. S. Hawke. Attorney John W. Weinig represented the Court.

Two Are Promoted. - Charles E. Tudor, Safety Director, yesterday announced the promotion of Leo J. Young, 214 East Liberty street, to be auto engineer in the Fire Department, and John E. Comerford, 1701 Pulte street, and John L. Mondary, 756 Clark street, to be assistant auto engineers.

Struggles With Negro Burglar. - A large knife saved a negro burglar from being captured yesterday in the home of Mrs. Anna Brown, 1122 Budd street. Upon seeing the negor, Mrs. Brown screemed. Her brother, Louis Pratt, ran from his room. The negro dived through a window pane, cutting his head and shoulders. Closed shutters blocked his escape. Pratt and the intruder then grappled. Pratt was forced to relinquish his hold when the negro drew a knife. The negro backed to a door, unlocked it and got away before police arrived.

Trial of Seven Continued. - Trial of seven men who were charged with violation of the liquor law after detectives caught tham in a barn on Duckcreek road, with 15 cases of whisky in their possession, was continued to May 13 by Munincipal Judge W. Meredith Yeatman yesterday. The accused men deny the allegations, declaring they did not know who owned the liquor. John Tomuta, Plum and Stark streets, saloon keeper, who alleged to have possessed wine unlawfully, was fined $200 and costs yesterday by Judge Yeatmen. Antonio Coletta, 2162 Florence avenue, safe owner, another Crabbe act violator, was fined $100 and costs. Leo Morris, main street, near Twelfth street, saloon keeper, was dismissed on a similar charge.

Woman Fined For Speeding. - Miss Barbara Zettel, 3664 Grandin road, who said she was "learning to drive" when she was asked why she had driven her car at a speed of nearly 40 miles an hour, was fined $25 and costs, yesterday by Minicipal Judge W. Meredith Yeatman. she also is restrained from driving her car for a month. Alvin Hartwig, 844 Columbia avenue, Newport, Ky., another alleged speeder, also was fined $25 and costs, Judge yeatman said he would do all in his power to stop speeding on Lower River road when the Liston Avenue Improvemant Association members announced they would war on speed-law violators.

Kentucky School Girl Sought. - Lilliam Haynes, 13 years old, Middlesboro, Ky., who disappeared from her home April 28 last, is being sought by Cincinnati police upon the request of her father, W. T. Haynes, a merchant. The girl left an unstamped letter in her school desk, addressed to an uncle in Honolulu, in which she said she intended to "go far away."

Husband Accused By Wife. - Andrew Conyes, 14 Garfield place, was charged with assault and battery yesterday by his wife, Mrs. Ada Conyes, who conducts a rooming house. Mrs. Conyes aalleges htat her husband and a woman designated as "Mary Doe attacked her when on the street. The woman "would telephone" to Conyes and "even had the nerve to send an automobile for him," stated Mrs. Conyes.

Accused of Reckless Driving. - On charges of reckless driving and having operated an automobile when he was intoxicated Edwin brooks, 38 years old, 6731 Lower River road, Secretary-Treasurer of the Boilman-Wilson Foundry Company, was arrested yesterday by Traffic Officer Albert Bowman. Brooks alleged careless driving almost caused a collision on Fourth street, near Race street, police said.
